Implications of Salt Diapirism in Syn-Depositional Architecture of a Carbonate Margin-to-Edge Transition: An Example from Plataria Syncline, Ionian Zone, NW Greece

The present study examines the imprint of salt tectonics on carbonate depositional patterns Ionian zone platform edge to slope transition. area is part an overturned rim syncline adjacent a diapir. made up three distinct stratigraphic sequences (pre-, syn- and post-rift sequences) represented by evaporites shallow water carbonates at base that pass gradually sequence consisting pelagic limestones with shale intervals. In area, six cross sections were constructed, mainly covering edge-to-slope succession Early Cretaceous Eocene (post-rift stage) in northern limb syncline. measured sections, abrupt changes sediment texture resulted formation distinct, thick-bedded layers, identified as packstones grainstones–floatstones, abundant fossil fragments, indicating deposition debrites or slope-toe environment. Planar ripple cross-lamination also suggest involvement turbidity currents process. upper levels Lower carbonates, chert bodies irregular shapes indicate soft deformation due instability triggered intrusion. Internal unconformities field available seismic data combined vertical dipping strata correspond basal megaflap configuration. Syn-sedimentary accumulation debritic turbiditic while compressional regime established from Late enhanced fracture porosity which could eventually affect reservoir properties.
